Newspaper articles
Most are from The Sandspur, a community newspaper published by The Fayetteville Observer. I have written around 90 of these as part of my librarian duties. It's fun way to market our services.
- Reading for pleasure doesn't get enough good publicity. After a media coordinator read this article, she forwarded it to every school media coordinator in a county of roughly 325,000 people.
- Book-a-Librarian provides up to 45 minutes of free one-on-one tech tutoring.
- E-books are great for travel. No fines, no book to lose.
- When there is an alligator sighting, you write about it.
Academic writing
I wrote my master's paper at UNC-Chapel Hill on volunteers in public libraries. It used something called the Volunteer Functions Inventory (VFI) to to look at why people volunteer at public libraries.
